Gut Check #2: Why We’re Quitting Our Jobs

Welcome to Gut Check by Beny Yogurt 👋

Why We’re Quitting Our Jobs

Don’t get me wrong, it’s intimidating to leave salaried jobs in private equity and tech to place a bet on ourselves and work full-time on yogurt. And yes, it took several discussions for our parents to get behind the idea. But, as James Clear (author of Atomic Habits) puts it:

“Limiting your options now will expand your opportunities in the long run because you can remain focused enough to master something. Keeping your options open now will reduce your opportunities in the long run because you divide your attention and end up doing an average job on seven different things.”

James Clear

To succeed, we have to give Beny 100%. So in 2025, we’re going full-time.

But what will this actually look like? How the heck do you even start a yogurt company? One way would be to raise money, buy a factory, produce 50,000 units and try to sell it all before expiration. That’s not what we’re doing.

Instead we’re treating Beny like we would a tech startup: build our MVP (minimum viable product), test it with customers, get feedback, and iterate. Continue to invest as we gain more traction. If you’ve taken part in any of our NYC drop sales, you know exactly what I mean.

Today, we’ve built an MVP, and are testing it in our community. And in 2025, when we go all in, we’re bringing you along for the ride :)

😋 Yogurt inspo: We love hearing how you all eat Beny. This week, Kiki made an Earl Grey Yogurt Loaf, swapped the veggie oil for olive oil, and it was a hit with the fam!

🍽️ Events: We’re partnering with Bazaar NYC (South Asian supper club in Brooklyn) early January. The menu just dropped, check it out (hint: there will be lots of Beny involved).

🎙️ Interview: We did an interview with Changemakers - here’s a 10s clip with a snippet of our story.

⚙️ Production: Today we toured a yogurt manufacturing plant so we can ramp up production for 2025. We’re looking for an awesome partner who can help us fulfill the mission of Beny, if you know anyone in the yogurt space let us know!
